Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Why is the US CLOUD Act a problem for companies and public authorities?
The US CLOUD Act allows US authorities to access data from US providers – regardless of where this data is stored. This means that even if your organisation opts for EU servers, Microsoft can still be forced to hand over data. This poses a massive risk for public authorities, critical infrastructure operators, healthcare providers and any organisation handling sensitive data. Teamwire is not affected by this, as the company is based entirely in Germany and is not subject to any US jurisdiction.
Can Microsoft Teams be used for emergency or out-of-band communication?
No. Microsoft Teams is not designed to function in the event of IT failures, VPN problems or cyberattacks. As soon as the Microsoft infrastructure is affected, Teams usually fails. Teamwire, on the other hand, runs on separate infrastructure, remains accessible even during IT failures, and offers alerting, push-to-talk, live location and broadcasting. Teamwire thus meets the requirements of NIS-2, DORA and CER, which Microsoft Teams does not technically cover.
Why should Teams not be used for sensitive or confidential communication?
Because Teams does not fully encrypt metadata, partially analyses data, communication patterns remain visible, data flows are not transparent, and it is centrally controlled by a US corporation. For confidential communication (C-level, incident command, medical data, police communication, etc.), this is an unacceptable risk. Teamwire is built for precisely such scenarios: 100% encryption, zero trust, no metadata analysis, 100% data sovereignty.
How does Teamwire protect my data better than Microsoft Teams?
Teamwire protects data through:
- Complete AES-256 encryption
- Encrypted metadata
- Zero-trust
- German jurisdiction
- No analysis or profiling
- Audit-proof audit logs
Many of these protection mechanisms are not available or only available to a limited extent in MS Teams.
